Supporting Your Independence

ABOUT US

__

I have a wide and varied range of experience in supporting individuals with additional support needs including both learning and physical disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, mental health conditions, acquired brain injuries and dementia and through this experience I recognise that everyone is unique and everyone is different therefore every support package that I offer is  unique, different and personalised in order to meet the specific needs and requirements of the individual.

My name is Claire and I am 40 plus (??!!) years old, I have been married to Mark for the past 13 years and I am a mum to Poppy and Ruby who each have 4 legs, wet noses and wagging tails! I am the youngest of three siblings and was born and raised in Scunthorpe, which is where I still live today. I am a very caring and empathic person who understands that by going the extra mile you can make a lot of difference to someone’s day. My dad had a physical disability, and this has helped me from a very early age to appreciate that everyone is different, and that there are a lot of challenges and prejudices from society, but with strong will and determination these can be overcome. It is my ambition that by creating… that I am able to support people to overcome the challenges that they face in everyday life in order for them to grow, achieve and remain independent for as long as possible.

I have worked in the Social Care sector since 2003 in a variety of exciting and challenging roles including; as Registered Manager of several supported living properties in North East Lincolnshire for a well-known and respected national company. I worked for this company until recently when I chose to take voluntary redundancy and follow my own dreams. I have a vast and varied experience of supporting people with a wide range of needs including; learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health conditions, autistic spectrum disorders, acquired brain injuries, Korsakoff’s syndrome and dementia and during this time I have undertaken various training in order to enhance my knowledge of these conditions to enable me to support people to the best of my ability.

I will be working on a self-employed basis, I hold a valid DBS Certificate and have Public Liability Insurance. I also hold a clean driving licence and have business insurance that allows me to transport people in my car but I am also happy to drive mobility cars.

I have had the pleasure of witnessing Claire working with a number of clients with various social, physical, emotional and practical needs. In every situation, she remained flexible and professional whilst displaying her true caring side which comes out in every action. I watched her accommodate varying needs and enable people to live their lives more fully as a result of her engagement and encouragement, as well as her direct, practical help when this was appropriate. This help included, but was certainly not exclusive to, negotiating the labyrinth of social services and benefits rules and regulations.

In particular, one lady with severe, complex emotional and practical needs stands out as a clear example of Claire’s excellence. Having seen Claire working with various other clients, I was happy to recommend her to the aforementioned lady, who is a member of my extended family. I watched this lady grow in confidence and learn to trust others as Claire proved herself reliable, compassionate and – above all, safe.

As a mother of children with special needs, as a carer and as a professional working in the social and healthcare sectors, I heartily recommend Claire Steed.

RGN; BA (Hons.) in Applied Theology; P.G.Cert.

I contacted Claire because I needed help coping with every day life. Initially, I was concerned about seeking assistance, due to my anxiety and my fear of people. I found Claire to be extremely easy to talk to and I was comfortable around her very quickly. She has helped me manage my life a lot better and has really built my confidence and faith in myself. I particularly like that she seems to know when to leave me to do something myself, or to step up and take over when I can’t manage. She truly cares.
I would highly recommend Claire to anyone that is struggling… She has a heart of gold and truly puts it to good use.
